After the update the template overview seems not good end not nice.

Just refresh the page! (or empty your cache)
In 3.5.4 i have migrated and compiles all css and js files used by admin and component, for a lighter zip, and better loading of css and js files

Do you have tried to clean your joomla admin cache ?
Maybe css files were cached by a third party extension.
And if it's the same after this, try to install again (without uninstalling to not lose your data).
