[VIEWED] Article related to iCagenda? was created by krogias
Any chance of making the iCagenda linked to articles?
e.g. it would be nice to have a button in articles editing, with which we will have the ability to create an event related to the article.
Now, when we are creating an article, we have to go to iCagenda and create a new event for this article. This is not very productive.

Cyril

The need exists if you want to use only the article system for everything.
For example the website of a Municipality in where you have to follow a formal type of articles in which every now and then you have municipal councils and other invitation to the public.
I asked for this feature again a year ago and told me that "it is a good idea". :)
I haven't renewed my subscription because I need this feature.

I can't find my previous request. I made it when I had subscription. I think it was in an direct email.

The stand alone article joomla system doesn't have event calendar. And I really liked the iCagenda.

Don't you see the need of having events implemented into articles, or even vice-versa, articles into events, WITHOUT THE NEED OF HAVING TWO SAPERATE CONTENTS ON YOUR JOOMLA?! . It will make iCagenda a very powerful component.

I have found your 7 months old topic about this : www.joomlic.com/forum/icagenda-help-en/2...ink-event-to-article ;-)

It was not the same question/request!

On this topic, you have asked this :

Now, when we are creating an article, we have to go to iCagenda and create a new event for this article. This is not very productive.

I will say no. (but i don't know what will be the future... in 3... 4... years...)
It not planned to have something creating automatically events when a joomla article is created. This is not the way of working for a Joomla CMS site (will explain more below ;-) )
So, it's not productive for you, maybe because it's not the good extension for what you really want to do :-) (a link which could be useful below....)

On the 7 months old topic, you asked this :

Linking event to articles or vise versa?

In this, i have understood :
- the possibilty when creating an event, to have an option to select a joomla article
- to have a link in event view to this article
- possibility to replace event detailled view by the article view

And for this, i have answered :

Today it's not one of the priority in roadmap, but this could be an additionnal option in the future.

And i still think the same about it ;-)

About your request today, i will try to sum-up it, as really different :

WITHOUT THE NEED OF HAVING TWO SAPERATE CONTENTS ON YOUR JOOMLA?!

The module calendar is linked to the component iCagenda, and could work only with component iCagenda.
This is an addon of the component, and not the main purpose of the extension.

What you want, and need, is only the module calendar ?
And to use it only to display joomla articles ?
So, you don't need iCagenda (not needed to have all the component system, if you don't want to use it).

What you need is a calendar module, which is coded and developed to display joomla articles in a calendar module.
And some extensions, with a simple module, already do this task!
For example, this one : extensions.joomla.org/extension/news-calendar (just one module!)
B)

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
Cyril

You see, that's the thing. I don't want just an event module, but a complete component like iCagenda with one more - POWERFULL in my opinion- feature.
If it is so difficult to implement, it's fine.
Thanks for your attention. :)

Cyril

My poor English is the problem. :)
I'll try to explain with an example:

I use the joomla article system as my basic Content System. In Articles I must have a lot of CATEGORIES (because of the structure of the website. Cant' do anything about it. It's the law.). One of these categories is the EVENTS category, with sub-categories like "Call Conferences" (very crucial to be in the basic article system), "Culture Events", "Athletic Events" ect.
When a user is browsing the website and sees an event on iCagenda Component or Module, and clicks on the title, I want to direct him to the Joomla article system, instead of iCagenda!
Now, when I create a new Joomla article which has an event, I have to create in iCagenda an Event with the same description as in my Joomla article. Which means DUPLICATES in my database and website (not so SEF). Or, I must create a link in the iCagenda Description option, to direct the user to the Joomla Article. These are not automated and waste of time for a webmaster, and not so productive.

In other words, maybe it's easier to implement an extra option in iCagenda Component in which, webmasters can choose whether they want to insert the details of the event in the native iCagenda Description field, or just link the Description to the Joomla! article!. All other features of the iCagenda (Dates, Information, Google Maps, Registrations, Options, Publishing) are left as the are. Only the Description is the problem.

Even more, (the vice-versa thing) a button in the article system like... "Create Event For This Article" will be magical and will make iCagenda unmatched!

Hope it helps. :)

Hello,

Yes, it helps, and thank you for this description...

So, i don't know yet how something could be managed in this way.
Maybe not directly as you think, but a button inside the creation of an article, to create an event or link in the same time, could be an idea...

I will keep in mind your message for future as with the idea of the button (processed by a plugin), it would be indeed a nice idea!

Thank you!
Best Regards,
Cyril
