I tried to empty the trashed items but they are not removed from the list.
steps to reproduce:
- Unpublish an event
- Trash an event
- Filter the list on status -> Trashed
- Check the check box of the event en click on Empty trash
Nothing happens, the events are still listed as trashed items.

This is really strange... As you do it in the right way...
I've tested it, and it is working to use empty trash.
Which version of iCagenda do you use?
Have you seen about cache ? Is it the same with joomla articles ? (it is using joomla core function, so it should work...)
Latest version : iCagenda 3.9.8

It's weird, since I had this problem on my local test site as well as on the live site, but I found out:
The events I was trying to remove were created in an previous version.
I updated the version of ICagenda to the newest after creating the items, the items I created in the previous version I could not delete in the current version.
I found a workaround by editing the trashed items and save them again with no changes.
After I saved them I can finally remove the trashed items permanently.

Do you know which older version ?
As i have done many enhancements last months, this can be a reason, and i can have a look to see if this can or not be fixed in a future release, or need a note to inform user that can happen.

I'm not 100% sure which version it was but for what it's worth:
The first version I started to work with was 2.0.3 and updated from that version through the auto update feature in extension manager
The items were from January and February, so according to the update log it most likely was 2.0.3 or at a max 2.0.4
Hope that helps.

In version 3.2.4 this problem still exists.
See enclosed SQL-dump for the event table content.

I always use the administrator to maintain websites.
Emptying the trash (after selecting Events and the correct Status in the drop-down box) is only possible after opening and closing each event which is in the trash.
It seems to me that by doing this an indicator is reinitiated which prevented the deletion.
Joomla 2.5.16.
Safari 7.0.
OSX 10.9
iCagenda (Dutch) 3.2.4

Is it event created with an old version of iCagenda ? (as this could occured with old ones, before asset_id joomla feature was added)
Do you have tested by creating a new event, and then after empty this one, without having to open and save it?
