[SOLVED Server settings / Joomla issue] Registration Screen gives HTTP error 500 a été créé par david.seager

Joomla 3.63, iCagenda 3.6.4.1

A few weeks ago users started receiving Error 500 whenever they tried to register for an event. I think that this started when I updated Joomla or iCagenda but cannot be sure.

I have a test site which is still working. The only other difference between the two site that I can see is that on the faulty live site the iCagenda:Options screen is not displaying properly and only gives access to the fields on the List tab.

I have checked for other users reporting similar problems but cannot find any. I have also reinstalled iCagenda and cleared all caches.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Well, is the language used is the same ?
(as there's 2 reasons for config wrong display : an error in the language strings, or an error in a third party extension (plugin))

About page 500 on frontend registration, is it possible to do a registration test online on your site ?

The language settings on both sites are English (en-GB). The live site does have several more third party extensions than the test site but it may be difficult to determine whether one of these is causing the problem. Would disabling them be useful?

Hello,

So, activate error reporting on "development" in Joomla global configuration to be able to view what is the php error message.

It's not really a error 500 page, but a white screen of death (php fatal error somewhere ;-)

)

Thanks for the suggestion regarding error reporting.

The error displayed on the screen is "Fatal error: Call to undefined function dom_import_simplexml() in /var/www/vhosts/waltonbridge.org.uk/httpdocs/libraries/joomla/form/form.php on line 885". This appears to be a problem with the PHP installation.

As this does not appear to be a problem with iCagenda I will follow it up elsewhere unless you have any suggestions.

Well, it's a serveur setting/capacity issue

Which is you PHP version ? (note: really recommended to be at least on 5.6, and the best : to be on php 7 !)

It is currently running on PHP version 5.4.45 which is the default provided by the hosting service ("5.4.45 by OS vendor"). I will experiment with 5.6 and 7 on my test system which appear to be available.

Hi!

In fact, it's not an issue with PHP directly (works good with 5.4.45), but maybe to missing fonctions on your server.

You can check in admin of Joomla > System Information, and search for "dom_import_simplexml" to see if activated or not.

But, could be good to contact your hoster ;-)

I found that the XML functions were missing from my PHP installation. I have now turned them on and iCagenda is working again.

Unfortunately, the problem was first noticed after I had updated both Joomla and iCagenda so I assumed that one of these updates was responsible. This is the second time that my PHP configuration has been changed without my knowledge. From now on I will keep a snapshot fo the settings and check them first.

Thank you for you help, especially since the fault was not in iCagenda.

So it's maybe your Hoster reseting your server config on each update of their system ?...
Annoying if it's the reason!

Great to know all is ok now for your Joomla site and xml files ;-)
