On 1&1, there's no problem for each site i've tested on this provider, so maybe the problem is coming from something else... A special setting, or due to an toher extension... Really difficult to know!
Or... ti could be a bug directly in Joomla install... This could happen.
You can try to install the Joomla pack 3.2.X to 3.2.3, this could perhaps solve an issue.
Joomla 3 has many issues depending of previous versions, and due to many (great!) changes since the first Joomla 3.0.
Today, 3.2.3 is the most stable version, but it ugrade from a previous version was not always working as expected. (and because Joomla 3 is really novative every day!
But, before an upgrade or new install, or else, it's better to make sure all your permissions are good on your files and folders of your server. This could give problem of install.
A good extension which could help you to clean permissions, and check all database is Admin Tools
