This is not a bug, but the events of a catgeory are not displayed if no menu, depending of their settings, don't allow to display this category.

So, you need at least one menu (visible or not) which one allows to display events from this category.

In fact, i've planned in the future to add a info message in admin side, and maybe to display such events in calendar, but with no link active (so maybe a message like this for those events : The details view is not available). I don't yet which solution will be the best, but if no menu allows to view an event (because of its category, language, access...) this one is not display today (this is a logical behavior, but i will see to add options for this later).
